Introduction:

In celebration of St. Austell’s heritage, the company has revamped their bottled beer range designs. Atlas Packaging were tasked in developing bespoke outer box packaging for the Korev, Proper Job and Tribute lines.

The Brief: ENSURE PACKAGING IS SIMPLE AND USER FRIENDLY FOR THE BOTTLING LINE

Atlas Packaging had to ensure that the cases were simple and user friendly on the production line. St. Austell Brewery required well-designed boxes that reflected the brand clear and effectively. The boxes needed to be well produced consistently, and provided in a format that ensured the boxes ran efficiently via their case erector.

The Solution: ADAPT THE PACKAGING TO FIT IN WITH THE BOTTLING RE-BRANDING

Whilst the 12 x 500ml boxes only required adjustments to the branding artwork for the box (the structure of this box didn’t change), the 8 x 500ml boxes were re-visited with close attention to the design and the position of the perforation.  This was to make it more user friendly for the case erector and to aid the presentation in store. The position of the perforation on the original box was detrimental to the running on the case erector. Therefore, a slight structural change made the packaging process easier for the bottling line. In terms of cardboard grade & selection we used a material that was reliable, good for printing and accurate for assembly. Our choice of material was Prowell’s NGB. This offers better palletisation and a much more environmentally-friendly board. Another solution we offered St. Austell brewery was space and an increase in deliveries. St Austell Brewery is a rapidly growing brewery and space is therefore a premium. St. Austell Brewery were therefore keen to work with a local supplier who could offer frequent deliveries.

Benefits:

Following our investment in the CUIR CCM last year we are better positioned to offer an improved print offering of up to six colours. We also changed the number of boxes per bundle to assist filling the machine and making the process quicker.
