Atlas Packaging was the driving force behind the installation of a large bicycle on the hillside at Capstone Hill in Ilfracombe this week to celebrate the Tour of Britain coming to Devon. The local organising group for the Tour asked the packaging firm in Barnstaple if it could come up with a design for the land art to be entered in to the Tour of Britain's nationwide competition for art linked to the cycle race.

Dave King, Atlas Packaging Head of Design said: "We were delighted to be asked to help with such a high profile event. We like a challenge and so to create a piece of art out of corrugated cardboard that has to be 30 metres wide by 18 metres long was interesting to say the least! But to see it in place made all the hard work worthwhile."

North Devon Council along with Ilfracombe Town Council were keen for the bike to highlight the work of Plastic Free North Devon and it's #2minutebeachclean campaign as well as promoting alternatives to single use plastic. The spokes were made out of ocean and beach recovered plastic as well as milk bottles from the district's recycling service.

The race is covered live on television across Europe but unfortunately poor weather in Ilfracombe at the time the race came through meant the helicopter was grounded. But drone footage of the bike will be sent to competition organisers.
